I work in a council and have deployed a few hundred Dell OptiPlex 9020s.

We have a Windows 7 64 Bit SOE that we PXE boot to all machines. This step has worked on all machines, I have done some research on this and some people are saying that their 9020s are coming with dead NICs, which isn't the case with ours.

We set up the computer, as we normally would. Then the mouse and keyboard don't work at all. We are plugging it on to the two USB 2 ports next to the Ethernet port.

Sometimes they will start working if we leave it for a few minutes, sometimes we have to restart a few times. Sometimes one will work and the other wont. It isn't the mouse and keyboard either. We are using the brand new mouse and keyboards that come with the computers.

All the mice and keyboard worked on the KVM switch when I was imaging them, it connects to the computer with a single USB port.

The strange thing is, the mouse and keyboard always work in the BIOS, but as soon as it boots into Windows, it stops.

Usually, once it starts to work, there is no issues from then, but we have had a few computers that have issues a few weeks or months later, and we have to do the same troubleshooting as mentioned above.

There are also a few issues with connecting USB drives to the computer. It takes the same troubleshooting to fix this as well.

Occasionally people get a blue screen saying something about USB drivers.

We have tried, many times: BIOS update Reimaging Chipset updates USB driver updates

We found all these drivers from the Dell website.

I have called Dell, and they said it is a problem with our SOE. I don't think that is the case.

What do you all think? Have any of you experienced this? Any solutions?

UPDATE:

We are incorporating the new drivers from Microsoft in our next SOE. The problem is, we need CAB files rather than EXE files.

I believe that these will fix these errors, and I hope that this will help others as well.
